Il a bâti cet immeuble sur des vestiges gallo-romain. Sa construction en 1891 fut précédée de fouilles archéologiques menées par Eugène Toulouze:<br /><br /><em>« En 1890, Monsieur Gabriel Pasquier, Architecte bien connu à Paris, après avoir terminé la construction de quelques immeubles élevés en bordure des rues Le Goff, Royer-Couard et Gay-Lussac, continuait ses travaux de construction en 1891, à l'angle formé par les rues Malebranche et Le Goff; il nous donnait ainsi la possibilité de poursuivre nos investigations sur ce point si intéressant de notre vieux Paris et de donner une suite à notre premier article : "Un Témoin des ages antiques à Lutèce", publié dans les Mémoires de la Société Dunkerquoise, en 1890.[..]<br /><br />Ce point de l'ancienne Lutèce a donc été tour à tour une fabrique de poteries gauloises, un champ de sépultures à incinération, une fabrique de briques et de poteries gallo-romaines, puis, occupé aussi par des habitations à diverses époques, et, en dernier lieu, par un dépôt d'immondices formé par les détritus que jetaient là les habitants de ce quartier. »<br /></em><br />G. Pasquier a laissé de nombreuses réalisations dans ce style à Paris, notamment dans les 7ème, 8ème et 17ème arrondissements. Celui-ci est à la fois très caractéristique avec ses éléments de style néogothique; une porte finement sculptée, des nervures en forme d'ogive. Pas celui des sgraffites élégantes, mais celui franchement plus "nouille", plus "tarte à la crème".<br /><br />L'impression que renvoie cet immeuble, peut être, pour certains, un peu indigeste. Ils étaient de deux types:<br />- ceux de devant pour employés sur l'avenue Daumesnil: logement avec cuisine séparée<br />- ceux du fond pour ouvriers donnent sur la rue de Congo: logement avec salle commune<br /><br />Cet ensemble incluait aussi des services communs: bains, lavoir et une bibliothèque. Mais la frequentation de cette dernière fut si limitée qu'elle fut transformée en dépôt mortuaire; ce qui permet toutefois de se rassurer en notant que celle-ci n'a pas péri à cause de la Star Academy.<br /><br />A la mort de Madame Lebaudy, la Fondation qui porte le Groupe des Maisons Ouvrières pris son nom. Je trouve sur <a href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famille_Lebaudy">wikipedia </a>cet extrait de notice :<br />"La femme de Jules Lebaudy, Amicie Lebaudy (fille de Constance Piou et de Palmyre Le Dall de Kereon, soeur de Jacques Piou, l'un des leaders politiques de la droite), écrit des ouvrages sur le jansénisme, sous le pseudonyme de Guillaume Dall, et donne beaucoup d'argent pour la restauration de l'abbaye de Port-Royal-des-Champs; Elle tient un salon à Paris, fréquenté par les grandes familles catholiques. Suite au krach de l'Union Générale en 1882, causé en partie par les manipulations boursières de son mari, elle décide de s'investir dans les œuvres sociales. À la mort de son mari, elle vend son logement et s'installe dans un petit deux-pièces à Saint-Lazare. Dans la plus grande discrétion, elle finance la Fondation Groupe des Maisons Ouvrières, qui s'occupe de construire des immeubles salubres pour les ouvriers. Un square du 20e arrondissement de Paris porte son nom (Amicie Lebaudy). The last two pictures shows the smallest street in Paris, "rue des Degrès" means more or less "stairs street". There are no doors now on this street but it used to be the residence of La Voisin and of the Baron Batz. The building was a command by a Venetian silk merchant.
