The "hotel de Montessuy" was built in 1899 in the western side of the 7th arrondissement (between the Invalides and the Champ-de-Mars) where most buildings were made between 1880 and 1914.
The architect Jules Lavirotte achieved several things in the area among which the nearby building on avenue Rapp which is regarded as one of the finest example of Art Nouveau in Paris.
This house is an early work but the future exuberance and curved style of Lavirotte can be appreciated in many details, especially the many different inspiration in the drawings of the balconies and windows.
